And now… Also the two days Austrian encore of the Road to Odessa is history! Yesterday and some moments today were on the edge, at last. More than a month of not too much sleep, riding up to 200 km a day, a journey like one big continental pinball game: it was about time I guess. Yesterday, I felt getting a fever, but decided to go out on the road anyway. Being in another train would me just get sicker. For a dreadfully long 163 km from Vienna to the village of Grein, mostly following the Eurovelo 6 sign posted cycle route, I fought against the strong western winds along the Danube.
After a really good night sleep, this morning I felt strong and in the mood enough again to hit the road for the very last time, life is for the living! The 146 km to Passau, Germany was another good fight against the wind. The last 20 km I went to the bottom, at last. That’s enough!, my body and mind and everything else told me, the party is over, go home boy!
Cycling to Odessa and a part of the road back home: I could have, I should have, I did it! Til the very last moment I could stick to my plan, my road, the power within me. Thirty seven days, more than 4000 km on the bike, stuck to my plan, but as free as I possibly could be the whole time through!
I am no longer free now. All night long, I am on some German trains, the road is no longer the destination, so get me out of here!
Some last words about this passed little journey of mine, will follow in the days to come, adios for now!
